How to translate your very first file in SDL Trados Studio 2014, 2015, 2017 or 2019

This post will walk you through your very first translation in SDL Trados Studio 2014, 2015, 2017 or 2019.

A Spanish-English glossary of genetics

Gene expressionFollowing on from my recent post on genomics and personalised medicine, here is my personal Spanish-English glossary. It started as a short Excel file a few years ago when I translated a website for a Spanish  company that offers genetic testing services. It has developed over time but enjoyed a growth spurt after the ITI Medical & Pharmaceutical Network workshop in November when we discussed challenging terminology in a Spanish text on pharmacogenomics. How to transfer apps from SDL Trados Studio 2011 to 2014

SDL OpenExchangeIf you installed Open Exchange apps in SDL Trados Studio 2011, you’ll be wondering if they’ll work in Studio 2014. Most of them will. Some may have to be updated by their developers(*), others have been updated already and will automatically appear in the Welcome View of Studio 2014, and another group of apps just need a bit of a helping hand to work in the new environment. NHS jargonA link on Twitter last week took me to a glossary in the Guardian of healthcare jargon and acronyms. I read through a number of entries and thought it looked like a useful resource of NHS-specific terms for medical translators so I quickly retweeted it. But I was too hasty: the article is dated August 2011 and in the last two years the organisation and information structures of the NHS have undergone big changes. Read more…
